Observed by Buddhists and Taoists, Wesak Day marks the Buddha's birthday, enlightenment and passing. The occasion is celebrated with chanting and prayers at the many Buddhist temples dotting the state. Free vegetarian meals are served at most temples and devotees are encouraged to participate in acts of charity such as making offerings of food to monks and donations for the poor and underprivileged.
The highlight of the celebration would be the grand float procession. More than 10,000 devotees from 37 Buddhist associations are expected to take part in the 7km float and candlelight procession that will start from the MBA pre-mises. The procession will start at 6pm from MBA and will pass Pangkor Road, Kelawei Road, Burmah Lane, Burmah Road, Peel Avenue, Macalister Road, Anson Road and Madras Lane before returning to the association.
