Subway Now Open at Queensbay Mall
Subway recently opened its 4th branch in Penang at Queensbay Mall. When the 1st outlet opened at E-Gate, everyone was hesitant and nobody expected it to be so successful especially as our staple food being rice. But ever since, it has proliferated and other branches soon follow at Gurney Tower and Auto City.
This is an alternative choice which is much more healthier than the hawker food we grew so accustomed to, albeit at a heftier price. Is good that Penangites are starting to eat and live healthier lives, and it reflects on our development progress. I would love to see more sandwich delis opening up and other healthier food alternatives being offered.

Famous Penangites: Datuk Lee Chong Wei
With the Thomas Cup finals currently being played in Malaysia, what better time to honor & provide support to our fellow Penangite Datuk Lee Chong Wei. I'm sure he will lead the team well and rewrite the history of 1992. To me, his three most memorable performance of his career are the 2008 Olympics runners-up, 2010 All-England Champion and 2006 Malaysian Open Champion, where he came back from the brink of defeat to beat Lin Dan. In 2006, Chong Wei somehow saved eight match points to subdue then World No.1 Lin Dan to win his 3rd consecutive Malaysia Open title in Kuching.
Datuk Lee Chong Wei (simplified Chinese: 李宗伟; traditional Chinese: 李宗偉; pinyin: Lǐ Zōngwěi, born in Bukit Mertajam, Penang; October 21, 1982[1]) is a professional badminton player from Malaysia who resides in Bukit Mertajam.[2] Lee won the silver medal in the 2008 Olympic Games, thus becoming the first Malaysian to reach the final of the men's singles event and ending Malaysia's Olympic medal drought since the 1996 Games. This achievement also earned him the title Datuk, and a description by Malaysian Prime Minister Najib Tun Razak as national hero.[3]
In his early years (during primary school in SRJK(C) Jit Sin (B)), Berapit, Lee favoured basketball, however his mother soon banned him from that activity due to the searing heat of the outdoor basketball court. Lee began to learn badminton at the age of 11, when his father, who liked to play the game, brought him to the badminton hall. Attracting the attention of a local coach, the coach asked Lee's father if he could take him as a student. After receiving the nod from his father, the coach began to train Lee after school.[5] Discovered by Misbun Sidek, he was drafted into the national squad when he was seventeen years old.[6]

Observed by Buddhists and Taoists, Wesak Day marks the Buddha's birthday, enlightenment and passing. The occasion is celebrated with chanting and prayers at the many Buddhist temples dotting the state. Free vegetarian meals are served at most temples and devotees are encouraged to participate in acts of charity such as making offerings of food to monks and donations for the poor and underprivileged.
The highlight of the celebration would be the grand float procession. More than 10,000 devotees from 37 Buddhist associations are expected to take part in the 7km float and candlelight procession that will start from the MBA pre-mises. The procession will start at 6pm from MBA and will pass Pangkor Road, Kelawei Road, Burmah Lane, Burmah Road, Peel Avenue, Macalister Road, Anson Road and Madras Lane before returning to the association. LED Chip Maker Creates 1,000 Jobs
THE new Osram light-emitting diodes (LEDs) wafer fabrication facility at the Bayan Lepas Industrial Park will create about 1,000 jobs.
This means that the company will have some 4,000 workers by end of the year.
“Some 15% to 20% of the workforce to be recruited will comprise engineers,” said Osram Opto Semiconductors GmbH president and chief executive officer Datuk Dr Ruediger Mueller after the launching of the wafer fabrication facility by International Trade and Industry Minister Datuk Seri Mustapa Mohamed on Tuesday.
“Each year, the new production facility can turn out enough chips to cover an area of 500 sq metres.
“That’s equivalent to the surface area of a wing on a Boeing 747 or two tennis courts.
“And we are not talking about giant chips. We’re talking about structural elements hardly visible to the naked eye. At least eight of our smallest chips fit on the head of a pin!” he added.
Osram manufactures the LED chips with indium-gallium-nitride technology on 4-inch wafers, which serve as the basis for blue and white LEDs.
“Their main fields of application are solid state lighting, LCD backlights, flash for cameras and mobile phones, automotive forward lighting and others which are only emerging today,” he said.
Mueller said the new LED chip production facility would further strengthen Osram’s LED market position.
He said: “Penang’s strategic location enables us to get our products quickly to the market.
“We are the only manufacturer to make LED chips in Asia and Europe.
“This unique advantage gives us a perfect position in terms of quantity, quality, cost and flexibility.”
