Georgetown Festival 1-31 July 2010

In conjunction with the 2nd anniversary of the recognition of Georgetown as the UNESCO World heritage site, there will be a massive celebration in Penang with many events lining up in July. Below are some of the competition line ups. I feel so proud to be a Penangite.

Organiser: Penang Global Tourism
Date: 7 July

Aimed at raising awareness of the living heritage that is within George Town, the Heritage Trea-Shaw Hunt 2010 is open to the general public (locals and tourists) - preferably sponsored by a corporate body like a hotel, tour company or tourism attraction.
Participants may enter as two-person team. Each team will be assigned a trishaw rider and given clues to guide them along the treasure hunt route. The checkpoint locations throughout the Hunt will be of significance to Penang's culture and heritage; where teams will be required to search for answers or complete simple challenges/tasks. The Hunt is limited to 50 trishaws on a "first-come-first-serve" basis and the entry fee per team/trishaw is RM388. Closing date for registration is 28 June 2010 (Monday).

The photo contest is to promote the art of the photography among the Penangite. With the launch of this photo contest, we also aim to inspire the phtography enthusiasts of anu level in Penang to know more about the Penang Peranakan culture and the people of the different races here. We also aim to introduce the unique culture of the Penang Peranakan group to the local community and to the world through the photographs captured.

Venue: Start and end at Komtar Walk (The competition will be all over the island)

Turn Over Penang is to motivate youngsters on their inspiriations and understanding on the history and heritage knowledge of Penang treasurers.

Organiser: Penang State Government & ATIC
Date: 31 July and 1 August
Venue: Heritage Court, Prangin Mall
Time: 9am - 6pm (31 July 2010) / 8am - 6pm (1 August 2010)
Ticket Price: RM 50 per team (Junior team), RM 200 per team (Open Category)

The Heritage Race will take the participants almost all over the Island will focus mainly on the heritage aspect of the island and the people. The city of Georgetown, a UNESCO world Heritage site will be featured as the central theme of the exciting and challenging Heritage Race.
